NOPSEMA has published an updated Psychosocial risk management guidance note to help duty holders better identify, assess and control psychosocial hazards in offshore workplaces.

The guidance has been comprehensively revised to reflect 2025 legislative changes and align with current research, industry practice and contemporary work health and safety guidance.

The update was informed by industry-specific research, subject matter experts and regulators across the resources sector.

Following public consultation between June and August 2026, NOPSEMA received nine submissions from operators, employer bodies and unions, helping shape the final guidance.

Key updates include:

  • alignment with current WHS definitions and guidance

  • expanded industry-specific control measures

  • stronger guidance on hazard identification and risk assessment

  • integration of psychosocial risks into MAE and bow tie concepts

  • updated resources, including ISO 45003

  • clearer reporting expectations.

The revised guidance supports a proactive and systematic approach to managing psychosocial risks and protecting the health and safety of the offshore workforce.
