The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) has today accepted Equinor’s environment plan for exploratory petroleum drilling in the Great Australian Bight, which represents the second of four approvals required before activity can commence.

Equinor resubmitted its environment plan for proposed exploration drilling in the Great Australian Bight on 29 November 2019. NOPSEMA will now resume its assessment of the proposal and the next decision point is scheduled to occur by 30 December 2019.

On 8 November 2019, NOPSEMA issued a notice to Equinor requiring them to modify and resubmit their environment plan for proposed drilling in the Great Australian Bight. Equinor have 21 days to provide NOPSEMA with further information.
