New well integrity guidance rolled out to industry

News announcement - Published 15 June, 2016

In September 2015, the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science released the eagerly anticipated amendments to Part 5 of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Resource Management and Administration) Regulations 2011. These amendments address the recommendations and lessons learned from the Montara blowout in the Timor Sea in 2009 and the Macondo blowout in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

NOPSEMA's Well Integrity Team, in consultation with an Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association working group, formulated the new guidance, to assist titleholders in meeting the amended regulations.

Between February and May 2016, NOPSEMA's Well Integrity Manager and members of the Well Integrity Team met with titleholders individually to present a summary of the new guidance. The presentations were well attended and received and the titleholders were able to address their own company requirements.
