Activity description

The Pyrenees Facility produces crude oil from the Ravensworth, Crosby, Stickle, Tanglehead, Wild Bull and Moondyne reservoirs via a single stand-alone Floating Production Storage and Offloading facility (the Pyrenees FPSO). Associated activities conducted over the life of the EP include crude oil offloading, well management, inspection, maintenance and repair of all infrastructure, produced water reinjection, reinjection of gas into the Macedon formation, use of support vessels and helicopter operations.

The Facility is located in Commonwealth waters 45 km northwest of Exmouth, approximately 27 km northwest from the Muiron Islands, 13 km from the northern boundary of the Ningaloo Marine Park boundary (Commonwealth Waters) and 27 km north-west of North West Cape, in Western Australia. Production commenced from the Facility in February 2010. The water depth in the Pyrenees Facility Operational Area is approximately 200 m.

BHP will install a Compact Flotation Unit (CFU) module to further improve the quality of processed produced formation water. Produced formation water is a by-product of oil and gas extraction. The Pyrenees daily produced formation water volume is ~144,000 bbl/day. The CFU module will enable BHP to achieve significant improvements in the quality of processed produced formation water and enable increased capacity and life extension of the facility. Under this EP revision, during normal operations 7 per cent of the annual produced water volume will be discharged overboard. The volume limit for upset conditions will be reduced to less than 3% of the annual produced formation water volume discharged overboard, so that at least 90% of the annual produced water volume will be reinjected.
